When you reflect on the pace of Jesus’ life, you find a clear difference between his self-care practices and the self-care we hear about today in a society wrapped up in being constantly on the move. Throughout the Gospels, we see the phrase, “He dismissed the crowds” which indicates that Jesus found ways to rest in the midst of
the busyness of healing, preaching, teaching, and helping others. Use this discussion to discover the spiritual practices of silence and solitude as seen in the life of Jesus.
Read Mark 6:31-32 and Luke 5:15-16.
Prepare to discuss three observations regarding self-care as seen in the actions of Jesus in the larger context of these passages.
