All students will have the freedom to conduct a research project this semester on a topic of their choosing from the years covered in this course. The project may take the form of a research paper, lecture, or mini documentary. Any other ideas for the project must be discussed and approved before beginning work on the project.

You will select and commit to your research project when you submit the research proposal due during Week 5.

NOTE: Regardless of the format you choose for your research project, a bibliography of at least five scholarly sources (peer reviewed) utilized for the project must be submitted by the due date. These sources cannot be from Course Hero, blogs, Wikipedia, History.com, etc. Utilize the resources available through the school library to aide in your research.

Write a brief research paper of at least five to eight pages or about 1,000 to 2,000 words (Times New Roman 12-point, double space) that includes a bibliography page. The topic can be on an individual, group, or event from the years covered in this class.

The paper must address a clearly stated thesis. The thesis must be a significant statement about a significant topic related to this course. The project must be tightly focused on supporting the thesis statement. All arguments must build toward that central argument.

This option is perfect for a student who wants practice improving their writing and researching skills.
