Guidelines and Instructions for Economic News Analysis and Report
1. Your task is to write up a summary and analysis of current news that relates to microeconomics. PLEASE DO NOT PICK A TOPIC THAT TALKS ABOUT INFLATION OR COVID. Your news article must come from reputable newspapers and journals, such as The Economist, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, and similar journals. “Current news means not more than one week old before the date of submission of the report. Your choice of the news article will reflect on your judgment of what economic news is significant and your ability to link classroom learning to the
real world. Be thoughtful in your selection of the article.
2. Your report must be formatted as follows: [A template and an example of a news report are posted on

SUMMARY of the main points of the article. (20%)
ANALYSIS of the news article: discuss why you chose this article and why you think the news is
significant. (40%)
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: engage your classmates in a discussion by asking
two or three relevant questions at the end of your report. (20%)
SOURCE of the article. (complete citation) (3%)
ORAL REPORT: Deliver a summary of your news orally in class. (15%)
3. Type your report and cite the source of your article at the end of your report.
