By writing The Cure Within Anne Harrington hoped to explain the appeals of mind-body

medicine and illuminate some of the discontents with standard ‘physicalist’ medicine. In order

to achieve this, she wrote a cultural history that takes up six narrative templates about the relation

of mind to health (e.g. the body that speaks), many of which have deep roots in Western culture

and all of which presently have resonance in popular and medical debates about health and

therapeutics. In a six-page critical review discuss how well she achieves her aims, emphasizing

one narrative template. As she admits in the conclusion, like all authors she had her own agenda

when undertaking this project. You certainly need to discuss how this agenda affected the
