09 Nov Spiritual Life Essay
As in the previous two essays, please choose one of the primary sources we have read in the last several weeks: from the Beat poets, Abraham Maslow, Bouckaert and Zsolnai on business, Sulmasy on clinical care, or Thich Nhat Hanh on “interbeing.” In an essay of four full pages, respond to the question: How are the ideas expressed in your chosen source relevant or valuable today, and specifically how are they relevant or valuable for “the spiritual life”? Or, if you feel otherwise, why are they not relevant or valuable?
In your essay, again like last time, make sure to state a thesis, then present and discuss 2-3 reasons in support of that claim. Make sure to make frequent reference to your chosen text throughout the essay, but avoid long (block) quotations. Also be sure to present, consider, and refute a counterargument (the strongest claim you can think of against your thesis), then restate your thesis in the conclusion.
