- Introduction & Thesis: Introduce your topic, include essential information/context, & include a thesis. The thesis statement should be clear, specific, and arguable. Remember, your thesis will not only assert the position your paper will take, but it will also be the foundation for the rest of your paper. You should return to your thesis throughout your paper (body paragraphs and conclusion) and reiterate the ways in which the evidence you integrate and your own writing and/or ideas proves your thesis. (15 Points)
- Body Paragraphs: Each body paragraph should begin with an introductory/topic sentence that reiterates your thesis in relation to the body paragraphs topic. Each paragraph should contain an equal balance of your own writing and integrated evidence from your sources. When integrating outside information, make sure you are quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, and/or a combination. Make sure the outside evidence truly develops your point and strengthens the points youre making about your original thesis statement. (40 Points)
- Integrated Evidence/Information: Make sure that you are correctly integrating outside information. Use signal phrases and verbs to clearly integrate ideas and/or statements from the sources youre using. Reference sources with the title and authors name. Do not treat quotations as complete sentences within your writing. Whether you are quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing, in-text citations should be present. Anything that is not general knowledge must be cited. (10 Points)
- Conclusion: In your conclusion, make sure to restate your research topic, reiterate your thesis, summarize your major points, state the significance of those points, and conclude your final thoughts regarding the research youve done. Make sure to exemplify that you have critically thought about the research youve done and also that youve considered the implications of your conclusion and/or proposed changes of your new found research. (15 Points)
