As we approach the end of the semester, you have two major projects left to complete: The Final Research Essay (25%) and your Annotated Bibliography (20%).
The final essay: In an essay (7-10 pages) examine how the novel The Handmaids Tale and the play Fences addresses the social and cultural barriers faced by the characters as well as in todays society. Include also, the music that weve reviewed that can highlight elements of your essay. This essay must incorporate the sources from your annotated bibliography. you were assigned last week to submit your thesis statement to the Blog. (see week 11) You have until 11/15 to submit your thesis. This assignment will be graded. Please pay attention to what the topic question is asking you.
TURNITIN This week you will submit the draft of your Final Essay (at least the first 3 pages). It should include a fully developed introductory paragraph with an arguable thesis. (10%)
Your body paragraphs should provide your discussion of The Handmaid’s Tale and the play Fences (with examples directly from the texts to support your thesis. You should also include support from at least one of your outside sources.
TURNITIN You will also submit this week the working list of three outside sources–annotated. Please carefully review your notes and prior lessons on the format and requirements for an annotation. (5%).

Your research will be used for your Annotated Bibliography. Keep in mind that you will need a total of 5 outside sources. This is a separate document from the Final Essay. However, the source information from your research will be incorporated into your Final Essay. These sources cannot be any material that we have used in class. They must be researched and verified as credible. The best option is to use the MEC library database or Google Scholar.
