In the 1960s, automobile accidents at the Vietnam conflict led to substantial increases in the number of Americans with disabilities. The disability movement took off after the enactment of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. What is similar between the plight of veterans with disabilities in the 1970s and contemporary veterans? What gains have been made in access to health care, employment, opportunites, and a decrease in discrimination? What needs still exist? What disabled populations still have unmet needs? (Chapter 8)
