Assignment: Observe people interacting socially in their natural environment (e.g., youngsters on the playground or at lunch, adults shopping or at work, etc.). Keep notes on the number of social exchanges and the types of behavior used in each social exchange (e.g., touch, facial expression, verbal communication, etc.). Share observations with the class. Discuss how these observations may be different had the individual had ASD.
Discussion Board: Create a new thread with the title of your Social Setting. Discuss whom you observed, the frequency and type of social exchanges and types of social functioning. Highlight any skills deficits by evaluating their social competence and social skills. Discuss how this interaction may differ for individuals with ASD. If you have used a specific social skills training strategy in your personal life, please share your experiences.
