Assignment 5d: Inventory Reflective Paper

Objective: Identify how you balance your time.

Instructions

When you think about how you balance your time, it is important not to confuse busyness with productivity. It has been said that highly productive people are often less busy than those who are overworked and overwhelmed. Conducting an inventory of your time will help you discover where are you spending your time and how to adjust your schedule to make time for self-care. This practical assignment will provide you with a good self-assessment for further reflection and action.

Read Chapters 3-4 in your Epperly textbook. The inventory is at the end of Chapter 3. Both chapters talk about the effective use of time.

Write a 3 to 4-page reflective paper that answers the following questions:

What does your typical day look like (or would look like) in your ministry setting?

How do your values shape your decisions throughout the course of a week?

What percentage of your day or week do you (or would you) spend on pastoral calls, study, sermon writing, administration, denominational activities, civic activities, and working with the various age groups in your ministry setting? Does the time allocation reflect your spiritual values?

What percentage of your day or week do you spend watching television, reading, or using the Internet for nonwork-related activities?

What percentage of your day or week do you spend on relationships: children, grandchildren, spouse, friends, and other social activities?

How are you emotionally present with your significant others? Do you time-share or multitask by consulting the Internet and texting while being with family members?

What would your perfect day or week look like as you dynamically balance ministry, self-care, family, relationships, etc.?

Use the Paper Writing rubric to guide your efforts and apply the required formatting style.
