As Chisholm notes, many students “sense a great gulf between language study and sermon preparation” (9). Translation and exegesis are vital, but the desired end of the exegetical process is the communication of Scripture. But how? In moving from exegesis to exposition, the initial step is to create an exegetical outline, synthetizing your analysis in preparation for teaching or preaching a biblical text.
Preparation:
Create an exegetical outline of Psalm 34:1-23, synthesizing its main ideas based on your translation and exegesis. Be sure to address the following points (cf. Exegetical Method Handout):
Capture the main divisions and ideas in the passage
Discuss supporting content (grammar, rhetoric, etc.) and context
Summarize the exegetical proposition in one sentence
