Dr. Azad's presentation demonstrated one of the "through lines" of our class this quarter, namely the advantages and disadvantages of spatial and temporal location, and the pivotal position of the "Medieval" – for better or worse! – in the Indic world. She focused on the historical interpretations of the Barmakids as archetypal figures of great wealth, learning, and statesmanship – located at the interstices between South and West Asia and serving as conduits between these regions' cultural spheres.
