11 Dec Assignment: Legal and Ethical Implications for Case Management
Assignment: Legal and Ethical Implications for Case Management
Treatment programs vary in size and scope depending on their mission and history. Most require outside funding in order to operate, and many receive funds from government sources. In the United States, government agencies provide much of this funding, both at the state and national level. In accepting these funds, treatment programs are often required to follow specific procedures or regulations. Some of these regulations are designed to ensure that funds are spent properly. Often, there are requirements that seek to protect vulnerable clients.
Regardless of the source of funds, all addiction professionals must adhere to legal and ethical requirements that protect clients, professionals, programs, and the community. The case manager must also adhere to these requirements.
For this Assignment, you will determine legal requirements that apply to state and federally funded projects on case management. You will also evaluate the ethical requirements for case managers.
To prepare for this Assignment, review the Required Readings for this week, focusing on ethical implications for case managers. Also, examine the legal requirements for case management and the specific expectations for case managers. In your review of the Learning Resources, consider the NAADAC Code of Ethics and the standards upheld by addiction professionals. Then, research state and federally funded projects by using the search strings “state funded addiction treatment programs” and “federally funded addiction treatment programs.” As you search, consider the funding that has been directed to your state. Review two programs located in your state that have received government funds*. Think about the legal requirements that this funding may impose on these programs.
Note: If you do not have a state-based location, choose a location with which you are familiar.
