How does Angela Davis define prison abolition? What are your thoughts on prison abolition? Moreover, across the country, especially in the state of California, student-led organizations such as the Underground Scholars Initiative, have begun to emerge throughout the University of California (UC system) [eg. UC Berkeley] and Cal State [e.g. Cal State Los Angeles], with institutional support to help formerly incarcerated and/or systems impacted students get resources to succeed in higher education. Are we seeing a cultural shift in where the logo “Schools not prisons!” is manifesting on the material level to reduce/eliminate recidivism rates? How can education be the key to reducing recidivism?
