Gerontology counselors in training learn about different theories on aging and the physiological and cognitive changes caused by aging to the various body systems of the elderly. Disengagement, activity, programmed, and environmental theories of aging are just a few. These theories suggest that aging and changes in the body system affect individuals differently, and older people respond to such changes differently.
