02 Feb Changing Attitudes toward the Male Breadwinner
Tiphany- A female breadwinner and a full time male homemaker becomes the third type of nuclear family. Female breadwinner family (FBWF) takes place when the female provides the main source of income for the family. The women’s movement pushed for women to engage in traditionally masculine pursuits in society. Women’s support for gender specialization in marriage declined rapidly from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s (Cunningham, 2008). Although there have been an increasing number of families in which wives are in the workforce while husbands stay at home to care for children, females still outnumber males, with 5.0 million stay-at-home mothers nationwide in 2017, compared with 267,000 stay-at-home fathers (U.S. Census Bureau, 2018a). How do you like this type of nuclear family?
