Executive Overview

Over the past few weeks, I have done extensive research on Ford Motor Company, I have developed matrices, identified strengths and weaknesses of the company, calculated financial ratios etc. Below I am going to provide a summary of my work, to the best of my abilities.

Ford has a great dependence on the US market, nonetheless, has had the best-selling pickup truck in the US for 45 years straight. Therefore, Ford has been able to survive and contend with these new car companies with such advanced technology (Tesla for instance). Ford has launched a strategic move with the release of their “Uniquely Ford” line of vehicles which focuses on electric, hybrid, and self-driving vehicles. For instance, Ford recently released a model called the “Mustang Mach E” which is a hatchback type, fully electric take on one of Ford’s most reputable vehicles (Mustang).

Ford has some major competitors, Dodge, Chevrolet, GM, and not to mention international brands like Honda, Toyota, etc. Ford has had bad publicity, not to mention their reputation with India is absolutely horrible. I mentioned throughout my case project that Ford could strategically run ad campaigns to make their reputation in India better, as well as produce vehicles for different areas around the world.

The main features of Ford Motor Company’s organizational structure are corporate hierarchy, regional geographic divisions, and global functional groups. Ford Motor Company has had a traditional corporate hierarchy in its company’s organizational structure. For instance, executive vice presidents report to the company’s CEO Mark Fields, while middle managers report to the executive vice presidents. With characteristics such as these, organizational structure tends to be supportive of traditional business management practices that attain effective top-down control.
