Music100 Education
I was born and raised in S. Korea. In Korea, music was a mandatory subject from K-12 while I was in school. I learned music theory, sight singing, note reading and sang in harmony from K-12. FYI, I did not attend fancy private schools. After I moved to California, I noticed not every school district provides music education as a mandatory subject. Do you think music education should be a mandatory or elective subject in school?
Paragraph 1: What did you learn about music from this course?
Paragraph 2: Based on what you have learned from this course, should music be a mandatory or elective subject in school from K-12?
Paragraph 3: If so, what is the best instrument/course to begin? Why? If not, why not? Please discuss this based on your experiences. Again, don’t google.
Paragraph 4: How can the public schools get funded to afford to teach music as a mandatory or even elective subject? Don’t discuss carwash or selling cookies, which won’t pay a music teacher’s salary, even a part time teacher, as you know. Let’s hypothetically assume we need $50000 per year in each school district. If you think music education is not necessary, which subject can replace the benefits from music ? Which subject(s) can replace music ?
Paragraph 5: Conclusion
