Have you ever tried eggnog? This creamy beverage somehow manages to combine the flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and milk, and it is quite popular at Christmas in several countries. Some people like it a lot, especially when it is mixed with some distilled spirits, but try asking someone what is in eggnog. The odds are that you will get a range of answers. Some people think it is a healthy egg drink, and others think it is an oil-based concoction that might invoke a heart attack unless you exercise immediately afterward. (A lot of people just don’t know whether the beverage even contains eggs.) The person who thinks eggnog is a healthy egg drink probably likes it more than the person who thinks it is a horrible oil-based beverage, as long as there are not stronger feelings (e.g., disgust at its taste) or behavioral experiences with the drink (e.g., working for the International Eggnog Producer Association). In other words, as we learned in the prior section of the book, an individual’s beliefs about eggnog’s health value should help to predict their overall evaluation of the drink.
