Peer review is one of various mechanisms used to ensure the quality of publications in academic journals

Hi all,(nicole)

Peer review is one of various mechanisms used to ensure the quality of publications in academic journals. It helps authors, journal editors and the reviewer themselves. It is a process that is unlikely to be eliminated from the publication process. All forms of peer review have their own strengths and weaknesses. Ali, P. A., & Watson, R. (2016). Essentially, a peer review is when one’s work is reviewed by their peers and/or experts in the same field. This process is significant as it pushes the writer to create original and correct work as it will be scrutinized by their peers. Peer reviews can be facilitated by allowing an opportunity for peers to review each other’s work and educate them on the importance of this process.
