Independent and dependent variables are often present in a study so that the researcher can evaluate what the outcomes of their interventions might be. According to McLeod (2019), the researcher is able to manipulate the independent variable and it has an effect on the dependent variable which the experimenter cannot change. in my EBP project, some of the independent variables would be the amount of education offered to nurses regarding infection control and safe patient handling and the kinds of mechanical lifts that will be placed on the units. Dependent variables would include how much the nurse’s knowledge has been after receiving the education. Another dependent variable would be the number of injuries and illnesses occurring within the nursing population after implementing the evidence-based interventions.
