Diagnostic and Ethical Considerations Paper (100 points) Inherent to diagnosis and treatment are cultural and ethical considerations. For this assignment, learners will identify a potential issue that might bring someone to psychotherapy. In a 5-6 page paper (double spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, 1” margin), learners will explore diagnostic considerations and how diagnosing could impact the presenting issue. They will also explore relevant cultural and ethical issues that may arise during treatment for this concern. Included in this paper should be a discussion of the intersection between diagnosis, culture, and identity, how religion and spirituality may play a role in the presenting issue, and consider how one’s personal values may influence diagnosis and treatment. Your grade will be determined by: (1) appropriately identifying an issue that may bring a client to treatment; (2) clearly articulating the value and concern associated with diagnosis; (3) describing the cultural and ethical issues may contribute to or exacerbate the presenting problem and how this may play out in treatment; and (4) demonstrating an understanding of the ways in which ones’ personal values and biases may influence the treatment process.
