Let’s discuss the theories that are often used for studying communication in the public, rhetorical, and mass communication contexts. This weeks’ assigned readings provided a detailed explanation of the following theories:
The Rhetoric: Ch. 20
Agenda Setting Theory: Ch. 11
- Cultural Studies: Ch. 27
Media Ecology Theory: Ch. 23
- Please write your enhanced discussion in response to the following discussion questions:
What communication experiences from your own everyday life could be explored using each of these theories?
- Do these theories clarify your experiences? In what ways?
Guidelines for Enhanced Discussion Posts:
- All of our discussions in this course are “Enhanced Discussions” and you can think of your initial discussion post as a mini-essay (4-5 concise paragraphs) in which you write about perceptions and insights related to the assigned readings and the discussion prompts/questions provided by the instructor.
