Being in a safety position, I do regular inspection as part of regulatory compliance. What I do see quite often is how we need to get better in improving process for building and fire control. The codes are a good resource even though I fall under mining industry. When I first transitioned over to a new mine, they had just commissioned a new refrigeration plant. No one in safety or the company went through the area after contractors had just completed. We decided to do the walkthrough and there was nothing in good place, whether it was locations of sprinkler heads, no exit lights and even shut off valves. Although these are basic, I can see us using the building and fire codes as a good baseline to start working on commissioning processes as part of new structures and part of our bidding/risk assessment process.
