28 Sep Mental Health among Military Veterans
Order Instructions
Mental health amongst veterans is a big problem, especial those who are in a Combat role. There are many Veterans who struggle in silence to avoid judgment and those who reach out for help only to be heavily medicated. Those struggling with PTSD often fall off to other major issues such as depression, drug addiction or alcoholism. “Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and addiction are strongly linked. Research suggests that almost 50 percent of people with PTSD have a co-occurring substance use disorder” (Matt Gonzales, 2022).
My biggest questions would be:
Why is medication so prevalent in the treatment of PTSD when addiction and suicide rates are so high?
What starts the deterioration of cognitive thinking, and what steps can be taken to help prevent or slow this?
