The four types of pharmacies included are CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and Visels. As the table shows, the brand prescription drug Adderall costs more at all four pharmacies than the generic version of the drug. The difference in cost is most notable at Walmart, where the brand version costs $280.11, while the generic version costs just $59.46. This difference in cost is due to the fact that generic drugs are typically much cheaper than brand-name drugs. This is because generic drugs are produced after the brand-name drug and therefore are produced after the active ingredient of the brand-name drug. In addition to this, generic drugs may exist in many different forms but still retain the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug. The same is true for OTC drugs. The brand-name drug Advil costs more than the generic version of the drug at all four pharmacies. This difference in cost is due to the fact that generic drugs are typically much cheaper than brand-name drugs. If your patient has a financial difficulty regarding medications cost, you should consider all treatment options. Generic drugs are typically much cheaper than brand-name drugs and may be just as effective. In addition, over-the-counter drugs are often just as effective as brand-name and generic drugs but are much cheaper.
