All research is measured by data quality. In short, data collection is everything! Collecting the
right data can make the difference between success and failure for your project, regardless of
geographic or research sub-field.
INSTRUCTIONS
Review your Learn items in this module for a broad overview of geographic research methods.
Identify at least two additional scholarly resources describing data collection methods in your
proposed geography sub-field. These sources are new and in addition to the two you used for the
Research Topic Selection Assignment.
Do the following at specific points in the proposal narrative. Remember, you are writing an
essay but be sure to include headers for each section. You may include sub-headings as needed.
For this assignment, you will:
1. Data Collection – Describe how you propose to collect data for your project, denoting the
specific tools, instruments, or collection methods that you will employ.
2. Location – Denote the location(s) of the data collection and analysis.
3. Procedures – Describe your data collection procedures. Highlight any equipment rental,
assistant expenses, data manipulation assistance, software purchases, or other items that may
cost you money.
4. Timeline and Budget – Give a realistic timeline and budget breakdown of a project that you
could undertake in the next two months.
5. Worldview – Describe your worldview purpose behind any presentation of findings.
6. References – Include at least four (4) scholarly sources.
Use correct grammar and formatting in the APA style, using Times New Roman 12-point font
with 1-inch margins, and at least 600 words.
Include a cover page and a references page, which do not count towards the minimum number of
words.
