In ENGL 1303, discussion forums consist of professional discussions where you will post reflections and information that you’ve gathered or observed through your readings and our course interactions. These discussions will create a learning community, a place to exchange information about readings, research, and experiences. You will post a discussion thread six times during the semester. Discussion posts should include new findings and insights from your readings with the aim of building our learning community in the same way that researchers publish their findings to expand knowledge and build their community. You will read and comment on the threads of your classmates; likewise, your classmates (and occasionally your professor) will comment on the information and ideas that you post.
We will use discussion as a way to transform our classroom into an ongoing community of learning, where each of us is responsible for contributing to the knowledge we study and for developing our own classroom knowledge base. These discussions will build an information resource for you in your roles as novice professional writers, and are similar to the activities used by professionals who write on the job. This is an important skill to hone, since many companies (including several listed in the Fortune 500) use discussion forums and blogs as a way to create knowledge and manage their communication, for both internal and external audiences.
Your thread (your initial post) is due the Friday after we start a new module, with the exception of the first Discussion Board Post (DBP1). Please see the syllabus/schedule for exact dates.
You will reply to at least two other classmates. Your replies are always due the Sunday after your own DBP is due.
