The reality of the patient portal challenge is an ongoing problem for medical groups. Registration often comes with a patient getting a long number/letter password on exiting a group that they are asked to change when they register at home. Often, they are emailed a link to a medical record and asked to go online to the portal and request a password, then go through a sequence. Compliance is low. The value-added benefits are also minimal to many patients.
After reading the Case Study and Chapter 7, answer the following questions that demonstrate your understanding of the case study and Chapter 7.
1) How can patient compliance with portal registration be increased?
2) What can be the value-added components of a patient portal beyond the existing components present in most portals such as:
-Bill paying
-Access to medical records
-Refill prescription request
