#1Thesis – Provide a brief (no more than 2-3 paragraphs overview of what you plan to argue in
your paper. Your paper should be cause and effect argument. Using a critical thinking
framework, begin your inquiry into a subject that you both are interested in and can research to
find a debatable or controversial question about the subject. In other words, an element of your
topic must be open to debate and have a rhetorical situation (a context and reason to argue about
it). Below are some examples of cause and effect topics to consider when thinking about your
own topic and thesis:
Lay out your thesis in a math like formula A causes B because of 1,2,3. The numbers are your
reasons for your claim. In all cases, you will need to use sources to support your claims. You
cannot simply say something causes something else without support. You need to cite examples.
And this is where your annotated bibliography comes in.
#2 Annotated Bibliography – within the same document as your thesis, create a page
break and start your bibliography. Using the reading on annotated bibliographies and
your readings/viewing about MLA formatting, create an annotated bibliography for the
sources you plan to integrate into your paper. Your works cited must include at least the
five minimum sources and either an evaluative or summary annotation (see your
reading). The page should be formatted to comply with the most recent MLA formatting
rules.
