1. Good evening, I am going to write upon Dickinson and Mina Loy. These two writers are both women whom both were scrutinezed for being women and obviously not men. To me they are both similar in the expressions they were trying to perceive. They both were limited in society because they were women. They were not respected simply because of this and had to overcome those trials and tribulations in order to open the gateway or platform I should say for all women, no matter race, religion or economical standing. These two women stood strong in their believes and never gave up on their writing. Especially when it came down to expressing the sexual tendencies whether it was Dickinson when she stated,”Wild nights should be our luxury! and also wrote, Rowing in Eden-Ah-the Sea! Might I be Moor-tonight-In thee”.(Dickinson,pg 1228) Mina Loy also expressed the same when she advocated in “Feminist Manifesto” by writing ,”As conditions are at present constituted-you have the choice between Parasitism,& Prostitution-or Negation”.(Mina Loy,pp737-739) I feel like I stated earlier by them not giving up and fighting to prove we women are equal or can be as equal as men opened up doors for us. They showed us we do have the will to fight and overcome all the aspects in life. Even though to this day we are not really treated as equal we still drive roles that men do and we have the power to change laws and views of the people. There is alot more they and others contributed but to me the lines I quoted meant something. We are not just there for mens pleasures and raising kids. We have a right to decide what we want to do with our bodies and our minds. WC 292

2. The gilded age has changed in the life and culture of the United States, and this is reflected in the three trends for writing Poetry Regionalism, Realism and Naturalism that was a literary movement at the time. I am going to talk about two writers from that time who had a life that was not extremely easy but who were brave enough to overcome themselves and get ahead. The first is Audre Lorde, a precocious poet who began writing in high school. She was characterized by her way of writing in prose and theme in a nonfiction genre. Much of what she wrote was about racial equality and feminism. She wrote many poems, but the most prominent are “The Women Thing” (Levine, 2023, p.1543). In her poem that we will see that she focuses on what we women think and the power that we must make ourselves heard. In “Black Mother Women” (Levine, 2023, p. 1544) She refers to the complicated mother-daughter relationship. She had a tremendous impact at that time because she wrote her poetry in the magazines of that time and fought for civil rights against the war.

Lucille Clifton was a writer; a teacher and her poetry was characterized by the experiences of everyday life. In his poetry there are verses of many syllables that were based on his natural language that he used. As she said, “I am a Black woman poet and I sound like one” (Clifton, 2023, p.1544) determined her personality and how he handled injustices, mental problems, and racism through the stories of his grandmother in his poems. Among the poems he wrote, the most named is “homage to my hips” (Levine, 2023, p.1547) refers to the feminist ideas of the power of women, self-confidence, the power to achieve your goals. Another poem from “The poem of the lost baby” (Levine, 2023, p.1546) which refers to the aborted pregnancy of an imaginary baby which touches on a topic that is contentious and controversial in the 20th century and to this day.
