25 Aug Determine which regulations/standards/guidelines apply to ergonomic hazards at a workplace.
In a 4 pages paper, summarize the gap in practice you have identified, state your PICOT question, and consider how you plan to communicate this gap in practice to stakeholders.
INTRODUCTION
Preparing for your practicum requires you to apply interprofessional communication skills as you pursue the arrangement and develop working relationships. In addition, communication with your preceptor is an opportunity to define a practice gap for your project.
DEMONSTRATION OF PROFICIENCY
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:
Competency 3: Address assessment purpose in a well-organized text, incorporating appropriate evidence and tone in grammatically sound sentences.
Summarize a gap in practice that has the appropriate scope for a DNP project.
Construct a PICOT question in the correct format, including all components.
Produce text with minimal grammar, usage, spelling, and mechanical errors.
Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references.
Competency 4: Communicate with organizational and community stakeholders in a responsive and responsible manner that supports a team approach to a possible intervention or process change.
Explain how you facilitated discussions and interactions and received ideas and feedback from stakeholders.
Competency 5: Synthesize literature to support a possible intervention or process change.
Explain the evidence that shows the issue is a problem at the site.
Note: The assessments in this course must be completed in the order presented; subsequent assessments should be built on both your earlier work and your instructor’s feedback on earlier assessments. If you choose to submit assessments prematurely, without considering and integrating your instructor’s feedback, your assessment may be returned ungraded, resulting in your loss of an assessment attempt.
INSTRUCTIONS
Part 1: Identify a Practice Gap
To open your paper, identify a gap in practice at your proposed practicum site. Next, include evidence from the site that supports the necessity for this issue to be addressed. Finally, conclude the paragraph with your PICOT question.Address the following in this section:
Summarize a gap in practice that has the appropriate scope for a DNP project.
Identify the evidence that shows the issue is a problem at your practice site.
If unable to obtain data, this may be theoretical.
Search further for evidence of the gap at the local, state, or national level.
Support the explanation with evidence from the practice site and according to the literature.
Follow the MEAL plan for each paragraph, but do not include the letters.
End this section with a summary paragraph that includes a PICOT question.
Length: 1 page.
How to Construct a PICOT Question
Formulate a PICOT question that is within the scope of a DNP doctoral project, and include all components. This question will relate to the identified gap in practice at your doctoral practice site. The intervention for this PICOT question is hypothetical for this assessment. It will be fully developed in assessment 6.Use this format, or use one of the other options from Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing & Health Sciences: PICOT Question Process, for developing a PICOT question:In ____________(P), how does __________(I) compared to desired state __________(C) affect the outcome __________(O) within __________(T).Here is an example of a PICOT question:For a medical unit experiencing a high number of failure to rescue (FTR) patients (P), how does the development of a rapid response team (I) compared to the current emergency alert system (code blue) (C) affect the number of FTR and unplanned admissions to the ICU (O) over a 12-week period (T)?A common mistake learners make when writing PICOT questions is rewording it into a research question, which is not appropriate for a DNP project. Here is an example of the sample PICOT question written as a research question:For a medical unit experiencing a high number of failure to rescue (FTR) patients (P), does a rapid response team (I) compared to the current emergency alert system (code blue) (C) reduce the number of FTR and unplanned admissions to the ICU (O) over a 12-week period (T)?In this case, the word “does” yields an investigative response and the word “reduce” indicates a directional response, which is not known at the start of an evidence-based QI/PI project.Note: Make sure your PICOT question has an appropriate scope for a DNP project. Here are the criteria for a DNP project of appropriate scope:
Can be completed in 8 to 12 weeks.
Is a quality improvement project or a process improvement project (i.e., is not research).
Addresses a gap in practice using an evidence-based intervention.
Part 2: Interprofessional Communication
A key component of the doctoral project is a collaboration with stakeholders who are vested in the project’s outcome. Interprofessional communication will be critical to your success at the practicum site. Consider the stakeholders with whom you will need to communicate during your practicum project. They might include patients, families, community members, health team members, and leaders at the health care facility. Each stakeholder group will have different concerns and levels of knowledge, and each group may be interested in slightly different information.Explain how you facilitated discussions and interactions and received ideas and feedback from stakeholders at your proposed site by addressing the following:
Discuss strategies you used to facilitate discussion and interactions with specific stakeholders at your site.
Describe the stakeholders’ ideas and feedback as they contributed to the definition of the gap in practice.
What modes or styles of communication were most effective when communicating with stakeholders at your practice site? What modes or styles of communication were least effective?
Include support from the literature to support your assertions.
You will also continue to practice using the MEAL Plan for each paragraph as you describe how you facilitated communication and feedback.
Length: 2 pages.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Length: 4 pages.
Organization: Use level headings for every section except the introduction.
Note about Writing Feedback: Pay close attention to feedback you receive on this assessment. Consider how implementing changes will move your work closer to one or more of the writing quality indicators identified in the Writing Feedback Tool. As you revise your writing, you can also check out the resources listed on the Writing Center’s Writing Support page.
GRADING CRITERIA
Your assessment will be graded using the following scoring guide criteria:
Summarize a gap in practice that has the appropriate scope for a DNP project.
Explain the evidence that shows the issue is a problem at the site using evidence at the local, state, or national level.
Construct a PICOT question in the correct format, including all components.
Explain how you facilitated discussions and interactions and received ideas and feedback from stakeholders.
Produce text with minimal grammar, usage, spelling, and mechanical errors.
Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references.

Difference between a Quality Improvement (QI) or Project Improvement (PI) Project and Research Study
Difference between a Quality Improvement (QI) or Project Improvement (PI) Project and Research Study
M (Main Point): The main difference between Quality Improvement (QI) or Project Improvement (PI) and a research study is that QI/PI projects are focused on improving performance in a single facility using existing evidence, while research is focused on producing evidence that can be generalized to practice. E (Evidence): The proposed doctoral project is a QI/PI project because it is focused on improving care for an underserved community rather than systematic investigation. The project idea aims to fulfill the urgent need for an outpatient substance abuse program in an underserved community located in Miami, FL. Research studies often seek to generate new evidence through systematic investigation, with human subjects’ recruitment but QI/PI projects such as the proposed project apply current evidence to improve outcomes or practice (Knudsen et al., 2019). A (Analysis): The generation of new evidence, as in research, is a systematic and closely controlled process of investigation with the goal of producing evidence that can be used in various facilities or settings to address the investigation issue. The proposed outpatient substance abuse program in Miami, FL, aims to improve current substance abuse care in the community rather than produce new evidence. It is, therefore, a QI/PI project rather than a research study. L (Lead out): QI/PI projects are ideal for doctoral projects with the aim of healthcare services and practice improvement, such as the proposed outpatient substance abuse program in Miami. They differ from research because they focus on quality improvement rather than generating new evidence.
