Please write either: an op-ed in response to an article in the arts you find whose issues you are particularl

Please write either: an op-ed in response to an article in the arts you find whose issues you are particularly impassioned about (2 pages double spaced minimum), OR: pitch an idea for an arts column and write a sample column as part of your pitch.

I believe the textbook addresses op-eds on page 182 (of the book itself, not the PDF file), and there is more helpful info here: https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/files/hks-communications-program/files/new_seglin_how_to_write_an_oped_1_25_17_7.pdf (Links to an external site.).

You'll get extra credit if you choose to pitch a column since it'll take a bit more work and research. In your submission, you should include an email pitch, and then a sample post. https://blog.influenceandco.com/the-right-and-wrong-ways-to-pitch-your-content-to-a-publication-editor (Links to an external site.)

For the column, pick a publication that exists that addresses arts, and then pitch a tailored column to the publication (1 page double spaced), and write a sample post you would publish in that column (2 pages double spaced minimum) for a column that doesn't exist yet. So, in other words, in your submission you would include an email pitch, as well as a sample post for that column. Submit all materials in ONE DOCUMENT FILE. You are not actually sending this pitch to the publication itself – it's an experiment for our purposes! 🙂 I'll open a discussion post for any questions!
