Grading Rubric for Long Day’s Journey into Night

 

25 pts: The student demonstrates in his/her writing familiarity with the text by writing about the text with confidence. Further, the student does not summarize the text excessively.

 

15 pts: The student’s essay exemplifies a clear, conscience order in its composition.

 

10 pts: The student follows the expected MLA format of a college essay, including a “Work Cited” page.

 

40 pts: The majority of the student’s work is focused on presenting original ideas about the text. These can be analytical statements that are supported by quotations and offer an explanation, or they can be a creative representation of those ideas. 

 

10 pts: The student’s work shows consideration of the audience of his/her paper.
