Nipissing District Developmental Screen – Assignment

Hello, I have written out some anwsers to the screening of the little boy. I will need a written three page essay with all the questions in the essay make sure to go into detail. I am free to answer questions about the little boy if needed more infomation on the screening.

For this assignment you will need to screen the development of a child, one month to six years of age, using the appropriate Nipissing District Developmental Screen; available on SLATE. You may screen your own child or the child of a relative or neighbour. If you do not screen your own child make sure you have the parents consent to do this.

In your assignment include:

1.     Age of child, your relationship to the child, cultural background and family situation.

Little boy who is 5 years of age named Silas, He is my little cousin from my fathers side of the family. It is my fathers, sisters son. We all currently live together; we have 9 people in my household. My Father, mother, grandmother, my boyfriend, my 2 brothers, my 2 little cousins, my aunt, and my uncle. We live on three acres, and own pigs dogs and cats

1.      Describe the environment where the screening took place and why you choose this environment.  2. Indicate whether the environment had a positive or negative affect on the completion of the screen. 3. Also, indicate if you encountered any difficulties completing the checklist.  What do think would be an ideal environment to complete this screen?

Silas and I had done some of the screening inside our home, and outside as well Silas wouldnt focus as well as he did outside as we got more done outside. I did have diffculities completing the check list due to the fact he seemed uninterested, not wanting to focus, wanted to play around, or making jokes and running around. Some things on the check list were easier such as speaking clearly,

1.      Summarize your findings.  Was the child able to complete all tasks; were there any tasks missed? If the childs first language is not English, how did you adapt the screen to evaluate the child? If the child misses 2 or more of the tasks what would you recommend to the parents? How important is it that parents interact with child and encourage development?

The child was not able to complete all tasks, he was distracted, or didnt want to do the task hed goof off, the child did miss 2 plus more of the tasks for he wouldnt focus on what I would ask him to do.

1.     Do you think the checklist is a valid tool for checking a childs development? Why or why not?

APA format, 3 pages max. Hand in online.
