I am going to post two different post written by other students please please answer the questions on your own not from google or no plagarizing. Mt professor is very very strict so the two postings I’m going to post is very lengthy I just need you to write 6-8 sentence in your own words about the post. So a total of 12-16 sentences per discussion post. Please just a response and not plagarized.
1. What effect did World War II have on people of color at home and on the war front?
While millions of white American men and women were fighting in World War II, African Americans were excluded at first and only given the lowest-wage, lowest-skill jobs. Many African Americans worked in factories and industry jobs, since most white American men were drafted to fight in the war. While the world was at war, circumstances at home were not much better; racism was still a major issue with no resolve. In our textbook, David Emory Shi says, “African Americans noted the irony of the United States fighting against racism abroad while tolerating it at home” (Shi 914). During this time, many riots and racial incidents were occurring in America; despite this, African Americans “rushed to enlist after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor” (Shi 914).
A. Philip Randolph led a march to Washington, D.C. to demand “an end to racial discrimination in defense industries” (Shi 914). Even though African Americans still faced racial discrimination at home, many wanted to enlist and fight in World War II. White Americans did not like the idea of this, but they needed the manpower. To compromise, African Americans were allowed to join the military, but were not allowed in combat and had to be segregated. A famous group of servicemen, the Tuskegee Airmen, are the reason that Americans desegregated “the armed forces after the war” (Shi 914).
2. How did women contribute to the war effort, and why was that significant?
During the second world war women helped out tremendously. In the textbook it states that “During the war, nearly 200,000 women served in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and the navy’s equivalent, Women accepted for volunteer emergency service. Others joined the marine corps, the coast guard and the army air force.” Meaning that during the second world war they took charge of things that men were also doing and had a stance that they were just as powerful as men and could do some of the same things as them. They would fight their own battles and help out in as many ways as possible during this time.
However also during this time the men didn’t like the fact that women were doing jobs that were traditionally male jobs like them joining the air forces and fighting on their own front. While i do think that this is a powerful thing for these women to do and standing their own two feet in the ground during this time. The text also states that “A disgruntled male legislator asked who would handle traditional household tasks if women flocked to factories: “who will do the cooking, the washing, the mending, the humble homey tasks to which every women has devoted herself; who will rear and nurture the children?”. I do think that women would still be able to do these tasks as well as support the country as well as the men that fight for our country.
The women taking these jobs was significant because of the fact that they were doing jobs that yes were traditionally for men, but they are taking their own stance and putting things into their own hands and i think that this was a very powerful movement for the women during this time.
