1. Read Chapter 12 & 13 book Criminal procedure ,fourth edition ,Matthew Lippman.

2. DQ 10 Sentencing Guidelines

3. The original intent of mandatory minimum sentences was to create a more fair and equitable criminal justice system where offenders got a minimum level of punishment regardless of their social status, race, gender, etc.  Now here we are in 2021 and still having discussions about inequality in sentencing and the perception that the justice system is grossly unfair.  How come mandatory sentencing didn’t work and is eliminating mandatory sentencing really the answer to creating a more fair justice system? What are your thoughts and ideas on fair and just sentencing?
