Write an essay of five or more paragraphs. A paragraph is four to six sentences.The five topic options are below.

  • Choose one of the five topics to write your essay. 

  • Put your main idea that you want to explain or prove in your first paragraph.  

  • Use your outline to help you organize your thoughts and ideas.

  • Complete the detailed outline first for extra credit.

  • Dont forget to: include quotes from the texts and films in the class,

                                     include identity and/or perspective as part of your claim or main idea. 

  • If you write less than five complete paragraphs, it will still be accepted but not for full credit. Any essay is better than none.

  • Due Tuesday, August 6. Work received on Friday will be a maximum of 65 and you will get a 55 on the revision grade.

  • If you hand the essay in on-time on Tuesday, you will have time to revise your essay and have an additional grade added to your average that is either a 90 or 100. You will receive an additional 55 if it is not on-time because you wont be able to revise it.

  • Before you hand it in, look at the grading rubric below to make sure you have done everything correctly.      

  • Include at least two vocabulary words or ideas we have discussed this semester. On Monday, you will receive a list.           

Essay topics [choose one]:

A. Have you ever had an experience that changed your perspective?

B. How has the past year changed your perspective on living in New York?

C. How does the article or poem [that we read] make a point about identity or perspective?

D. How has one or more aspects of your identity influenced your perspective?

E. What is the main idea of one of the poems, films, speeches or articles? Explain. What lines make that idea clear?
