GuidelinesSelect an important event in your life and write about either
its causes or effects. Introduction –-establish your topic – explain
the life event that you are writing about-present your thesis statement –
thesis should be one clear, concise sentence at the end of the
introduction. It should include the words “cause” or “effect” and the
event you are writing about.EX: There were three main causes for my
decision to go back to school.EX: There were many effects of my car
accident.3 Body paragraphs –Each body paragraph should discuss a cause
OR an effect, not both. You are writing either a cause paper or an
effect paper. Remember that causes are what happened before an event
and effects are what happened after.IDENTIFYBegin each body paragraph
with a topic sentence that includes a transition, the event, and
identifies a cause or effect.EX: One effect of my car accident was I had
to get a new job.EX: Another cause for my decision to go back to school
was financial. EXPLAINIn 2-3 sentences explain why this is a cause or
effect. Avoid specific examples here. Just give a general explanation
of how and why this is a cause or effect of the event.
