Several weeks ago the owner of your company made national headlines when she stated Unions have no place in the modern workplace. Her remarks were picked up by all the National media companies. As a result of this publicity, the President of the National Association of Salespeople & Trades International (NASTI), the Union that represents a majority of all US based call centers, has vowed to organize your company.
Your wages, benefits and working conditions are competitive with all the other non-union call center organizations and about 25% lower than the unionized call centers. The owner of your company has told you that the only reason the company was able to recently win the big contract was this lower cost.
You are concerned because most of the employees who are hired into your call center initially hate all the rules you enforce. After about six months they either learn to love the structure or leave. You turnover during this time is about 25%. After the first six months the turnover is less than 5%. The reason for your concern is that during these first six months the employees are especially susceptible to the idea of a Union.
What would be the best approach NASTI could take in unionizing your call centers? What should/could you do to counter NASTI . Remember, I am looking for more than just your opinion.
