15 Aug Sociology Paper
As the “capstone” course in the UCI Sociology major, Soc 180 is designed to provide each student with an opportunity to do a paper that introduces him/her to sociological research and writing. Each student will choose a specific topic, within the broader seminar theme of globalization, social change, and inequality. Papers can take the form of literature reviews, proposals for research, theoretical arguments/critiques, “position papers,” etc. in any case, the key will be to develop a solid sociological argument based on class readings and some additional bibliography and statistical information.
“globalization” is not always about something that is happening in some distant place– it is a process in which all of us are deeply enmeshed; it deeply impacts our own lives and communities. So the paper topics can focus on changes and inequalities that are occurring here in Irvine, Orange County, California, and the United States or wherever you live.
