In “Key Facts About Asian Americans, a Diverse and Growing Population” (López, Ruiz & Patten, 2017), the authors note that Asian migration to the United States increased by 72% from 2000 to 2015, which is “the fastest growth rate of any major racial or ethnic group” (López et al., 2017, para. 4). Yet, Asian Americans are still perceived as a model minority, and the animus directed towards other immigrant groups does not seem to be leveled at Asian immigrants. Read López et al. (2017) and apply concepts from the text to explain why Asian immigration is not as feared as immigrants from other parts of the world. What characteristics described in the article might be responsible for the muted reaction?
