Add more to already written herbal remedies essay

I need the final draft for my herbal remedies paper.

Specific Requirements:

  1. Your research paper should be a minimum of 2000 words. (Roughly 7 pages). You can go up to 3500 words. (About 13 pages)

  2. You must present an argument on the topic you explore. You arent, for example, simply explaining how Americans are obsessed with cell phones. You are making a point about cell phones, that the use of cell phones should be regulated while driving to lessen the chances of fatal car accidents. In fact, your paper should do two things: 1) explore a question at issue by researching what has been written about that issue, and 2) take an informed position, making an argument based on your analysis of research.

  3. You must refute at least one opposing argument about your topic.

  4. Your paper should be supported by 5-10 credible, college-level sources, including at least one peer reviewed source. Most of these should come from the Clackamas Community College online library, which includes access to books, journal articles, newspaper articles, government documents, and much more. Your source list should be varied. (Feel free to use your sources from your inquiry essay and annotated bibliography)

  5. You can include field research. If you are looking into solar energy, for example, call a solar energy company. If you are researching the benefits of open adoptions, interview adoptees or birth mothers of adoptees.

  6. Unless prior approval was granted, your paper should be formatted following current MLA requirements. You MUST include an MLA works cited page that lists all sources for your paper and any source material must be accurately cited in the paper using MLA in-text citations.

  7. Plagiarism can warrant failure of the paper and the course.

  8. Peer Review and Instructor review will occur during Week 7. Make sure that you participate!

  9. You must submit your final paper as indicated on the course schedule. No late papers are accepted.

The Evidence

You should have a rich variety of evidence to support your thesis that includes statistics, facts, and personal experience (not necessarily yours). You should also cite authorities on your topics, avoid logical fallacies, and make sure you anticipate and refute the opposing viewpoint. For a helpful tutorial on each of these kinds of evidence, go to this website: http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/composition/argument.htm

Organization of the Paper

Having a clear organizational design is important to presenting your ideas clearly. The key is to use the thesis as an organizing force and to have topic sentences for each paragraph that clearly support the thesis.  Please try to follow the organizational scheme shown below:

INTRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To set up and state ones claim

  • 1-2 paragraphs at the most

  • Make your introductory paragraph interesting. How can you draw your readers in? Use an introductory technique like starting with a startling statistic, interesting quote, or memorable anecdote

  • What background information, if any, do we need to know in order to understand your claim? If you dont follow this paragraph with a background information paragraph (see below), please insert that info here.

  • STATE your claim (thesis) at the end of your introductory paragraph

BACKGROUND PARAGRAPH

PURPOSE: Lays the foundation for proving your argument.

  • 1-2 paragraphs tops; Optional (can omit for some papers). Also, sometimes this info is incorporated into the introduction paragraph (see above).

  • Will often include:

  • Definition of key terms

  • Explanation of key theories

SUPPORTING EVIDENCE PARAGRAPH #1

PURPOSE: To prove your argument. Usually in one paragraph but it can be longer.

  • Topic Sentence: What is one item, fact, detail, or example you can tell your readers that will help them better understand your claim/paper topic? Your answer should be the topic sentence for this paragraph.

  • Explain Topic Sentence: Do you need to explain your topic sentence? If so, do so here.

  • Introduce Evidence: Introduce your evidence either in a few words (As Dr. Brown states ) or in a full sentence (To understand this issue we first need to look at statistics).

  • State Evidence: What supporting evidence (reasons, examples, facts, statistics, and/or quotations) can you include to prove/support/explain your topic sentence?

  • Explain Evidence: How should we read or interpret the evidence you are providing us? How does this evidence prove the point you are trying to make in this paragraph? Can be opinion based and is often at least 1-3 sentences.

  • Concluding Sentence: End your paragraph with a concluding sentence that reasserts how the topic sentence of this paragraph helps up better understand and/or prove your papers overall claim.

SUPPORTING EVIDENCE PARAGRAPH #2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.

  • Follow same format as stated under Supporting Evidence Paragraph #1

COUNTERARGUMENT PARAGRAPH

PURPOSE: To anticipate your readers objections. This section makes you sound more objective and reasonable.

  • Usually 1-2 paragraphs tops

  • What possible argument might your reader pose against your argument and/or some aspect of your reasoning? Insert one or more of those arguments here and refute them

  • If the opposing side as a good point, it is okay to acknowledge that here, but if you find that the opposing point has many good points, that may be a sign that you are arguing the wrong side of the argument!

  • End paragraph with a concluding sentence that reasserts your papers claim as a whole.

CONCLUSION

PURPOSE: Remind readers of your argument and supporting evidence

  • Usually just one paragraph

  • Restates your papers overall claim and supporting evidence

  • Should leave your reader something to think about. Make the language concrete and vivid. Remember, this is the last thing your reader reads.

  • You can use one of those intro techniques in the conclusion: give us one more startling statistic, quote, or a memorable anecdote.
