Objectives
Students will:
- Read the article
- Answer the four comprehension questions in a paragraph each (at least five sentences each)
- Use MLA formatting

Answer these four questions and turn them in using MLA format:
1. What reasons did the residents of Kew Gardens give for not taking action?
2. What impact does the first line have? Although it states facts and not a point of view, can you consider it a thesis statement? Why or why not?
3. Gansberg includes several direct quotations by neighbors explaining their actions that night.Are direct quotes more effective than paraphrasing? Why?
4. Do you think that this article describes an isolated event or captures commonplace attitudes and behaviors? Do you think that it is a fact of modern life or human nature that leads people to avoid getting involved?
