Statement 1:    Despite the significant lack of resources or allocation of focus towards emergency management and disaster relief, the United States has developed highly detailed and focused systems geared towards these issues (Phillips et al., 2017).  For example, the Federal Emergency Management Agency primarily oversees and manages the disaster relief, emergency response, and emergency planning towards the occurrences of natural disasters (Phillips et al., 2017). 

Statement 2:  Emergency management in the United States has grown dramatically over the decades, and oftentimes by trial and error. The first example of emergency management in the United States was back in 1803 when a New Hampshire town was devastated by a fire, and the federal government stepped in and provided financial aid to the community. In the 1930s there was a need for roads and infrastructure to be repaired across the United States, due to natural disasters.
