Assignment – Sexuality

Brief Description: Analyze one brief scene from Chulito and reflect on how it highlights a major theme of the book. 2-3 pages.

Components:

Introductory paragraph Introduce the work, author and major themes of the book. Make an argument aka thesis about how the author presents this theme and why it is significant.

Body paragraphs your scene is your evidence for your thesis. Introduce/ set the scene, quote important lines and analyze them. Remember every word represent a choice the writer is making. How do those choices impact the scene/ book?

Conclusion Do more than just restate your thesis. Reflect on the larger implications of the work, perhaps within Latinx/ LGBTQ writing?

Notes:

Envision a general audience ie someone who has not read the book, not your professor! Give just enough information for someone to follow your argument, but dont over saturate with summary.

Make sure to read the paper carefully over after it is drafted. I recommend reading it out loud to catch phrasing and grammatical issues!
