Psalms As Torah Reading Biblical Ethically

Complete a book review of Psalms as Torah: Reading Biblical Song Ethically, by Gordon Wenham.

70% of the paper should review the book chapter by chapter. Discuss each chapters main idea and how the author goes about arguing for it. (Do more than say, “In chapter 1 the author talks about topic X.” Go on to discuss what the author says about topic X, what point he makes about it, what the argument of the chapter is, and how it fits into the overall argument of the book, for example.)

The other 30% of your review should be critical reflection on the book’s contents, composed of the following points:

  • Positive reflections concerning the book. What was helpful and well-argued? (Give reasons for your answers to all of these questions.)
  • Negative reflections: What was not helpful, not well-argued, or unclear? What points were weak? Interact with some of the books main ideas or some details that have a direct bearing on the books main points.

This is a book review, not a book report. Interact with the content. In this review, opinions on how the book is written or on what one “likes” or “doesn’t like” about it are not the goal. This is not about whether or not you like the author’s style of writing, for example. The review should focus on what the author has written and should engage the points and arguments the author makes.
