Health Promotion Campaign Project

Description: As we’ve learned, an effective Health Promotion Campaign can play an important role in achieving or improving health of populations. This is your opportunity to develop a campaign targeting a current and relevant health behaviour, disease/condition or health/social issue. Your goals should include to bring awareness to the issue and/or to change behaviour of your target population. The project should be completed using Health Promotion theory and research that has been covered in the KIN 278 course. Part 1: Health Promotion Campaign Value: 15% – Identify which health behaviour, illness, disease, health or social issue you’d like as your topic. Choose something of interest to you and ensure that you have a very clear idea of what you would like to achieve through your campaign (consider your targets and desired outcomes). – Choose how you’d like to disseminate the campaign info. Options can include a poster, brochure or a video/advertisement (max 2-3 minutes). If you have an idea outside of these ones, please don’t hesitate in emailing me. I can let you know if your idea is an acceptable alternative for this assignment. – You are welcome to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint or other design platforms to create your assignment. Please pay attention to the Submission Guidelines section at the end of this document. – Start your design! Remember to be purposeful in your choices in terms of content, language, design and format used. You will need to justify or explain these decisions in Part 2 of this Project. Are you able to create a slogan and catchy phrase to make your campaign memorable? Also remember that visual appeal is very important! – If you are including content that requires referencing, please add this to your Paper as a separate Reference section at the end. For example, you could have your regular References section followed by a Campaign References section below that. Part 2: Paper Value: 20% – Your paper should be between 8-10 pages (double-spaced) not including your Title Page and References. Margins should be 1-inch. – APA referencing/format should be used. For information about writing in APA format: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_style_introduction.html. – You should include a minimum of five (5) references in total, with at least two (2) being from peer-reviewed journal articles. – The paper should be organized using these exact headings: Introduction and Background – Introduce your topic clearly and demonstrate (through your research) why it is a priority for a health promotion campaign. Perform an epidemiological assessment. What is the incidence or prevalence or mortality rate? What is the impact? Be thorough in your description of the issue and use research to reinforce why you’ve selected this as your focus.

Reflect on 1-2 past health promotion campaigns that have targeted this issue. Were they effective or ineffective? How will yours be any different? – Identify clearly what you are trying to achieve with this particular health promotion campaign. What are the short- and long-term outcomes that you are hoping for? Are you focusing on primary, secondary or tertiary prevention? Your paper should include a clear and concise objective statement. For example: The objective of my campaign is to raise awareness of the risks of impaired driving at the University of Regina in an effort to reduce mortality from impaired driving-related motor vehicle accidents in Saskatchewan. Target Audience/Population – Identify your target audience for this campaign and provide rationale for your selection. Are you defining your target audience by age, sex, ethnicity, location, etc.? Does the research on your health issue support this selection? Why or why not? – Identify 2-3 barriers or perceived challenges that may the target population from accessing your campaign or making changes to their health? Use your research to support the identification of these. Campaign Description – Describe your campaign and the tool (poster, brochure, video, etc.) you designed to support it! Where and how will it be distributed? Why did you make the choices you did in terms of content, language, design and format? – Consider how you will evaluate the success of your campaign. Are the results measurable? – Identify if there are 2-3 partners or stakeholders that you would like to work with in running your campaign. Are there other organizations or groups aiming to achieve similar outcomes? Theory Application – In reflecting on the various Health Promotion theories covered during this class, select one (1) or more that guided you in the development of your campaign. Describe why you selected the theory or theories that you did and expand more on how those elements and constructs were incorporated into your project to make the campaign successful.
