Purpose: Experiential essays will give students an opportunity to provide a written summary of exploration taking place outside of the course, and engaging with counseling organizations or counselors in the field. They present realistic, complex, and contextually rich situations, and involve problems to solve and/or questions to answer.
Parameters: Each experiential essay will be 1600 words in length, written in APA format, with an exception for the permission to use first person writing.
Prompt: Interview a Christian counselor regarding their perspective on integration in the counseling office.
Sample Questions Include:
What do you do if a client asks to include prayer in a counseling session but seems uncomfortable when the prayer takes place?
How did you choose counseling setting (church, private practice, etc.)
What percentage of your client load desires explicit integration in the counseling process?
How do you discuss your integrational approach with your client in the intake session?
What has been the most challenging part of your work?
Most rewarding?
