The issue of training is a very salient, and necessary tosurvival in today’s employment market!! However, many companies shy away fromdeveloping people to be more marketable and worthy of more pay for fear oflosing them. From what I have seen, the opposite is what takes place – theemployee feels valued, so they stay. At my previous employer we were havingtrouble retaining even front-line employees – despite our being the wage leaderin the area and having a great culture. I put together a formalized progressiontraining program along with a lucrative compensation plan giving everyone theopportunity to get to top wages and the retention had gone up dramatically. Wespent a lot of money and time in training on everything from safety, quality,technical skill, and soft skills. But, itpaid off in retention and capability.

 

 

 

 

In considering the pros and cons of conducting all this trainingand development, what are the negatives to not engaging in a good program for acompany allowing the fear of losing people? If you were in a company such asthis, how would you influence Sr. leadership to adopt a robust program ofdevelopment for their folks?     175-200 words.
